Peter L. Costas, past CBA president (1997-1998) passed away on February 16 at the age of 85. Attorney Costas practiced in the Hartford area for over 50 years with a specialty in intellectual property. He had been active in the Connecticut legal community and the CBA throughout his career. In 1987, he received the John Eldred Shields Distinguished Professional Service Award.
In order to do justice to Attorney Costas’ legacy, CBA President Monte E. Frank reached out to our past presidents for their thoughts. The responses were uniform in describing him as a consummate gentleman with a keen intellect, wit, and gregarious nature. He was an excellent legal scholar and advocate. He was passionate about making a difference for members in many ways, including his significant contributions for the Connecticut Bar Journal and to young lawyers.
Peter concluded his last president’s column in the Connecticut Lawyer, published almost 19 years ago, as follows: ” With this, my last report to you, I finish my year as president and thank you for the opportunity to serve this excellent professional organization. To all of you (and to our association), I wish that you live long and prosper!”
The family will hold a celebration of life in the spring; CBA members will be updated when a date has been selected. Memorial donations may be made to:
