Member Spotlight: Diane D. Duhamel and Joseph R. Passaretti

Attorneys Diane D. Duhamel and Joseph R. Passaretti, Jr. were inducted into The College of Workers’ Compensation Lawyers (CWCL) on March 14 at the ABA Workers’ Compensation Midwinter Conference and CWCL Symposium in Coral Gables, FL.

The College of Workers’ Compensation Lawyers honors attorneys who have distinguished themselves in their practice in the field of workers’ compensation; have been in practice for 20 years or more; and have advanced the future of the practice through lecturing, writing, or teaching on workers’ compensation or related fields of law.

Attorney Duhamel is a chair of the Examining Committee for Workers’ Compensation Certification in the State of Connecticut, a past chair of the CBA Workers’ Compensation Section Executive Committee, and was a member of the editorial board for the CBA’s Compensation Quarterly (1996-2000).

Attorney Passaretti is a board certified workers’ compensation specialist in Glastonbury and a past chair of the CBA Workers’ Compensation Section, past editor-in-chief of the Compensation Quarterly, and editor of Connecticut Workers’ Compensation after Reforms (4th-6th Editions).

CBA members previously inducted into CWCL are Robert F. Carter, Donna J. Civitello, John P. Clarkson, Jason M. Dodge, David J. Morrissey, James L. Pomeranz, Angelo P. Sevarino, and Lucas D. Strunk.

On December 6, the CBA Workers’ Compensation Section hosted a retirement celebration for Commissioner Nancy E. Salerno at the La Bella Vista in Waterbury. More than 300 section members, workers’ compensation commissioners and attorneys, claim representatives, family, friends, and colleagues celebrated and thanked Commissioner Salerno for her 15 years of service to the commission.

The CBA Workers’ Compensation Section aims to organize members of the CBA who are workers’ compensation practitioners and to educate all members of the bar from all sides at all levels of expertise as to workers’ compensation law. Furthermore, this section attempts to provide services to organizations other than the CBA when those organizations are involved in the Connecticut Workers’ Compensation system.

On September 20, the CBA Workers’ Compensation Section sponsored a retirement dinner for Commissioner John A. Mastropietro at La Bella Vista in Waterbury. Section members, workers’ compensation attorneys, claim representatives, family, friends, and colleagues joined together to wish the commissioner well in future endeavors.

The CBA Workers’ Compensation Section aims to organize the members of the CBA who are workers’ compensation practitioners and to educate all members of the bar from all sides at all levels of expertise as to workers’ compensation law. Furthermore, this section attempts to provide services to organizations other than the CBA when those organizations are involved in the Connecticut Workers’ Compensation system.

Section Spotlight: Workers’ Compensation

On May 24, the CBA Workers’ Compensation Section sponsored a retirement dinner for Commissioner Christine L. Engel at the Waterbury Country Club. Section members, workers’ compensation commissioners and attorneys, claim representatives, family, friends, and colleagues, joined together to thank the commissioner for her years of service.

Commissioner Engel became a Board Certified Expert in Workers’ Compensation in 2003 and joined the Workers’ Compensation Commission in 2008. Prior to becoming commissioner, she worked at Nicholas & Johnson LLC where she primarily focused her practice in workers’ compensation, but also represented clients in social security disability claims, real estate closings, personal injury actions, and family matters.
